Brandon Shortell, 1940-2007Brandon "Papa" Shortell was surrounded by the people he always put first, his family. Friday, April 6th he passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in New York City to John and Anne Shortell on July 12th 1940. He graduated from high school at the age of 16, and then enlisted in the Air Force where he served for five years. His Air Force service brought him to Spokane where on a blind date he met Linda L. LaPlante. They were married April 22nd 1961. He worked for the US Postal Service for 19 years, retiring as Director of Operations in 1992. Then began his true calling and passion: Being Papa. Being Papa meant always having a joke, gathering the family for dinner, being quick to lend a hand, a loving place to drop off the kids, and making a mean pot of spaghetti and meatballs. Papa is survived by his most loving wife of 46 years, Linda "Nana" Shortell; his children, Greg and Lisa Shortell, Nancy and Dave Cambensy, Dr. Timothy Shortell, and Mike and Dana Shortell. Also survived and dearly missed by his pride and joy, his 8 wonderful grandchildren: Meghan, Amanda, Kaitlyn, Maddie, Ally, Anna, Joseph and Andrew; his brother John and Annemarie, sister Nancy and brother Donald. His Father, Mother and brother Robert preceded him in death. As did his best friend Robert "Uncle Bob" LaPlante. We will always remember his wisdom and appreciate his generosity. Papa always said, "Nothing is worth doing unless you do it right." Papa did it right!

In a democracy it is necessary that people should learn to endure having their sentiments outraged. -- Bertrand Russell Let us strangle the last king with the entrails of the last priest. -- Denis Diderot When one person suffers from a delusion, it is called insanity. Brandon Shortell
I knew Brandon in the 19
60's when we worked together in Eugene, Oregon. I was his assistant for a couple years and replaced him when he resigned to return to the east coast and the postal service. We lost touch with each other then. I was truly sorry to read of his passing. I will remember him and he will be in my prayers, as will be his family.
I'm blessed to have known
I'm blessed to have known Brandon. He made me laugh every road trip, every visit with the twins. I only wish i could have gotten to know him better. Rest in peace.
